General description

Docusate Sodium is a highly effective and versatile anionic surfactant (surface active agent) and the best wetting agent in the pharmaceutical industry. It is used for wetting very hydrophobic active ingredients, stabilizing micro or nano dispersions and dispersing formulations in wet granulation and direct compression.

Docusate is extensively used in stool softener formulations to provide consistent, predictable and gentle relief. It reduces the surface tension of the oil and water interface within the stool, facilitating the passage of water and lipids into the stool mass. Unlike other irritant and stimulant laxatives, docusate is extremely gentle and does not give rise to side effects like cramping.
